Prevent becoming a hunchback

Chiropractic Solutions Newsletter – June 2019

How to avoid the widow’s hump!

humpFrom the Doctor

Addressing the hump or the bulge is the correct way, isn’t it?  We cannot simply ignore it, can we?  Yes, that thing on the back of the neck that could be misidentified as a middle third shoulder.

It is called a widow’s hump, a hunchback, or bad posture–whatever you call it, we want to avoid it.  We’re seeing it in teens now because of looking down at technology.  How their spine develops through aging will have a ripple effect on their health for their lifetime.  A widow’s hump used to mainly be seen in our grandparents and depending on their occupation it would be either subtle or prominent.

Hunchback posture makes a person look old, and it negatively affects our health and ability to move without pain.  Poor posture is the fastest way to get spinal degeneration or arthritis in the neck and spine.  It causes the shoulders to be tight, the neck muscles to tighten, and this creates headaches and general misery in the neck and shoulders.  When poor posture is combined with high stress, the problem is amplified in an individual.

The cure can sound so simple.  Get your neck and upper back adjusted, and strengthen your upper back and core muscles to hold your posture in the right position.  There is no pill for this issue, although doctors will prescribe pain pills, and they are failing to address the root cause. This can leave one feeling bent.  Chiropractic care addresses the whole person for a holistic approach towards feeling better.

Neck Pain Lifestyle Hack
This month’s lifestyle hack is helping people avoid the widows hump.  Let’s develop a better practice of stretching our necks.

Chiropractic Solutions is Moving
We announced last month that Chiropractic Solutions is moving to Middleton. Larisa and I have been looking for a place for years, and we found exactly what we were looking for in the Middleton Hills neighborhood. The clinic will move in early August and will be located on the back side of the Pick N’ Save off Century Ave in Middleton.

The new clinic address will be 6737 Frank Lloyd Wright Drive. The benefits to you in the new clinic are:

  • Closer to the Beltline
  • Individual Hydro-massage rooms
  • Chelsea will be in an amazing mood, as she does not have to commute as far.  🙂

We appreciate and love our neighbors and neighborhood here on Muir Field Road; however, our lease has come to an end.  After 10 years of business here, we are ready to move into a space we can call our own. We are wishing for a smooth transition and will continue to serve the highest quality chiropractic care in the Madison area.

Chiropractic Solutions Will be Closed:
Thursday, July 4th & Friday, July 5th
Please plan accordingly.
