The holiday season is well underway and we all know what that means; tasty treats, family time, and lots of hours spent on the couch. The sofa can seem like our greatest friend when in reality it can become our worst enemy. That loveseat can cause your lower back to fall out of place quicker than you think. Defeat the couch monster this holiday season and save your lower back from added inflammation and pain.
Choose the floor over the sofa if you can. The floor forces you to engage your core for stabilization. Floor sitting also encourages better posture in general. Sitting on the couch for long periods of time can cause inflammation to pool, and can cause the mechanics in your lower back and pelvis to become out of place.
When sitting on the floor:
- Stretch your legs forward
- Stretch your legs apart
- Roll out your calves and hamstrings
- Engage your core
Most importantly, enjoy moving your body and improving your health overall.
